VCM no Ethernet signal
-
Hello,
I'm experiencing a problem with my VCM module, after install a ECM tune,i connected the VOE cable for some data logging and the Ethernet communication was lost . The tune was installed and the car is working fine but the Ethernet signal with VOE cable don't work, however i have connection with J2534 cable to Vdash. All the function of the VCM seems to be working fine (no problems with Gps location, wifi signal, VOC or volvo app).
I've tested with 2 different VOE cable, 2 USB adapters and 2 laptops, also checked the fuse. Can anyone perhaps knows what's causing the problem and if there's any solution? Do i need to buy another VCM module?
Thanks! -
@Libelix how did you install the tune? Flashing a tune doesn't do anything to the VCM.
Using the VOE adapter requires a computer/laptop that is able to run 2 seperate network connections in parallel. One towards the car and another towards the internet. Most non-business/home user devices from HP, Dell, Acer and so on don't support that. -
@T5-T6-Schnappi The tune was installed remotely, tuner connected to laptop via ultraviewer and used Orbit for the flash. The tune was completely installed, the car is working fine and all the VCM function are working fine but now i dont have Ethernet signal. Everything was working fine before the installation, i could connect to car with VOE cable for diagnostics with no problem at all but now i don't have ethernet signal, however i have communication if using the J2534 Mongoose cable to connect to Vdash.

Just to add some info it might be relevant. To install the tune i replaced the original ECM for a new one that it's send by the tuner, it's not really a new one since the ECM came with signs of second-hand (scratches and stickers peeling). First they retrieved the data from the original ECM, then i change it for the "new" one for data transfering. Thanks

@Libelix So your car was tuned by RICA. What does their support say about your problem?
Is there no DoIP communication with any software? OrBit, Vdash, Vtool? Or is it just Vdash?
You seem to mix abbrevations. VCM is the Volvo on Call module and has nothing to do with acccesing the car via OBD. VGM is the stupid firewall behind the OBD port, that limits the access to car if you don't have the VGM pin. But even without the VGM pin you should be able to read codes and access some service functions with Vdash via DoIP/VOE adapter. -
@T5-T6-Schnappi Not Rica, it was NRS TEchniek but i think the procedure it's exactly the same.
I don't have DoIP communication in Vdash and Orbit (It was only the 2 softwares i tried)I've done some meetings with NRS and Orbit support. During this meetings they've tried to connect the car to the software (Orbit) with no succcess because there's no ethernet signal/connection from OBD port. Mostly, their work was done around the windows firewall and windows Ethernet/port configurations. Basically, in the end this was their answer:
- " Although not see a 2022 VCM fail, this is what we see on early VCMs that have failed, at least for our purposes. The Ethernet chip fails, wich kills the VOE connection."
Just to let you know, during this time i've checked the OBD Port pins, the fuse for OBD diagnostics, also perform a de-power for reset the VCM module (Disconnected the VCM module and VOC battery backup). Thanks

@Libelix Is your car still a sensus or already an iCUP? On Sensus cars the obd port is indeed connected to VCM. On iCUPs its connected to the VGM. As your car is shown as MY2022 I suspect it to be an iCUP.
Wiring diagram for the diagonstic port of Sensus cars can be found here
Wiring diagram for MY23 iCUP here
Pins for the Ethernet are 3,8,11,12,13
If your VCM is really damaged you will have a big problem. VCMs can't be cloned. At least it's not possible to used ones due to pin mismatch.
